We tried 3 restaurants and 5 bars in Ulaanbaatar—from Modern Nomads' updated classics to Fat Cat Jazz Club. Real visits, no fluff, just what worked for us in Mongolia's capital.

Ulaanbaatar in September was our staging post for the steppe, and the city itself earned more nights than planned. We found Modern Nomads serving updated Mongolian classics, a genuinely great jazz club at Fat Cat, and the Zaisan hill view at dusk worth the climb. The Shangri-La became our comfortable anchor between adventures.

Summer is short and the country knows it—June through September is the window, otherwise bring serious layers. We covered 3 restaurants, 5 bars, 2 museums, and a couple of key sights, all places we actually visited and can vouch for.
