Salzburg — Where We Ate & Drank

Salzburg travel guide

We ate our way through Salzburg twice—June and September—visiting 8 restaurants including Michelin-starred Esszimmer and SENNS, plus Paradoxon's bold flavors and historic St. Peter Stiftskulinarium.

Salzburg hosted us in two seasons—June's festival-warmup buzz and September's golden calm—and ate far above its postcard weight. Esszimmer and SENNS both carry Michelin stars, Paradoxon carries attitude, and St. Peter Stiftskulinarium carries centuries of monastic tradition. We found 8 restaurants worth the detour between fortress funicular rides and Sound of Music hills.

These aren't every restaurant in Salzburg—just the ones that made us linger over dessert or book a second visit. Mozartkugeln from a proper konditorei, not the airport, are mandatory.
