Oslo — Where We Ate & Drank

Oslo in August meant Maaemo—the three-star meal we still rank first among Nordic tastings—and HIMKOK, the in-house distillery bar that earns its world-ranking hype. The opera house roof and the new Munch museum fill the days. It's brutally expensive; the Sunday hike-and-hot-dog culture is the free counterweight.

We spent a week eating and drinking our way through 15 spots, from Kontrast's inventive tasting menu to Den Glade Gris and the food hall buzz at Mathallen. KOK Oslo Badstue offered the only break our wallets needed—a floating sauna on the fjord.
