Along the roads, we passed cute roadside restaurants and small mom-and-pop hotels and B&Bs tucked into the hillsides. In Santo Antão, we hiked what felt like 1,000 steps through a hillside village to learn about the grogue-making process from a local farmer. Grogue is Cape Verde’s national liquor, made from sugar cane, and we had a great time visiting several local producers. The day of tastings was definitely a hit and very welcomed.","We walked through the main market in Praia and saw an abundance of items for sale. People were shopping for produce, eating lunch, and socializing. This is where the city felt most alive.","Cape Verde has a strong Creole culture shaped by both African and Portuguese influences, and music plays a major role in daily life throughout the islands. We also stopped at a restaurant to watch a local dance and music performance.
